Getting started
How do I add a habit?
Tap the + button on the Today screen, give it a name, and add it. Keep it small and specific, like "Drink water" or "Read 10 pages."
Can I organize habits by time of day?
Yes. In a habit's edit sheet, choose Morning, Afternoon, or Evening. Those sections appear on their own as you use them; leave a habit as Anytime to keep it in the main list.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and Android phones, on iOS 14 or later and Android 7.0 or later.
Streaks and history
How do streaks work?
A streak counts the days you've completed a habit in a row. Forgot a day? Tap that day in the History journal (or open it from the calendar), mark the habit done, and your streak carries on. Your history is always yours to edit.
How do I see my history?
Tap the History tab at the bottom. You'll land on a per-habit journal, a stack of monthly calendars with the newest on top; scroll down to go further back. Each day shows whether you did the habit. Days before you started tracking, and days still ahead, appear as faint dots so every month reads as a complete picture, never as a missed day. Switch habits from the top to see any one on its own. It's built for reflection, not scorekeeping, so there's no penalty for a gap.
Does the week start on the right day for my region?
Yes. The calendar follows your device's regional setting, whether that's Monday-first, Sunday-first, or Saturday-first.
Reminders
How do reminders work?
Open a habit, turn on Reminder, and pick a time. You'll get one local notification per enabled habit each day. You can change the time or turn it off whenever you like.
I turned on a reminder but nothing arrives.
Habits needs notification permission from your phone. If notifications are turned off for Habits in your device settings, reminders can't be delivered. Open your settings and allow notifications for Habits.
Changing or removing a habit
Can I pause or hide a habit without losing its history?
Yes. Open the habit and choose Archive. It leaves your Today list but keeps its full record. You'll find it in a collapsed Archived group at the bottom of the History tab, where its journal still opens. Tap Restore anytime to bring it back to Today. Archiving never deletes anything.
How do I delete a habit?
Open the habit and choose Delete habit. Because this also erases its history and can't be undone, you'll be asked to confirm first. If you only want it off your list, Archive it instead to keep the history.
Data and privacy
How do I back up or move my habits to a new phone?
Go to Settings › Your data and Export a backup file. On the new phone, install Habits and use Import to restore it.
Does it work offline?
Habit tracking, history, and reminders all work without an internet connection. Exporting a backup to a cloud service or emailing support may use a connection.
Is my data private?
Yes. There are no accounts, and the app doesn't send your habit data to us or to any analytics or advertising service. See the Privacy policy for the details.
How do I erase all my data?
To remove the data stored locally by Habits, delete your habits and uninstall the app. You should also delete any backup files you've exported. Depending on your device settings, app data may remain in a device backup managed by Apple or Google; you can manage those through your device or account settings. Support emails and limited website information are handled as described in the Privacy policy.
Free
Is it free?
Yes. The whole app is free, nothing is paywalled, and there are no ads.
Can I sponsor Habits?
If you want to, at github.com/sponsors/ivanlokas. It's a donation, not a purchase: it unlocks nothing and changes nothing about the app. GitHub handles the payment; neither the app nor this site ever sees it.
